A digital spin on Nora Ephron’s ageless rom-com, You’ve Got Mail, Maybe:Josh follows a starry-eyed, freshly single LA transplant named Willow (Juliette LaBelle) who at the encouragement of her kooky best friend Jenni (Maritza Lerman Yoes) joins a bizarre new dating app where users must meet their matches IRL within a week or all connections to them are severed, as is their chance at love... will she meet the love of her life by the countdown? Filmed almost exclusively on the filmmakers' iPhone, Maybe: Josh is a short film that uses the protagonist’s smartphone contents (texts, selfies, FaceTimes, etc) to offer the most intimate portrait of young love. Maybe: Josh was written and directed by Jonah Feingold, himself a California transplant hailing from New York. With his producer and co-writer, Carlin Catra Cwik, they sought to frame one too many actual dating app experiences by way of a much beloved but often misunderstood genre, the romantic comedy. With the guidance of cinematographer, Juan Sebastion Baron, whose recent credits include another story-within-a-screen-centric film – SEARCHING, Feingold and his team at New Form Digital were able to capture the story almost entirely with iPhones.
